School’s out

Not for me though, I’m just a working man. But all preliminary level and high-school students are now officially on vacation. One thing I like about this is that everyone is dressed so much better than usual. Suits and dresses, and the girls have really worked on their hair.

It would usually mean a portrait photo-opportunity heaven for me, but not this year because I still have my camera in for repairs!

Yesterday was a busy day nevertheless, I went to the YleX concert in Kaisaniemi, just like I do every year. I go there for the music and the summer festival feel.

In hindsight I think I should have used my film cameras as backup, but for some reason I opted for my old Dimage7i instead. Oh man, I really regret this choice. The abysmal focusing speed is indeed the reason for ever growing tired of that camera. It has a long reach tele, but it sure makes auto-focus real slow and inaccurate. Manual focus is almost impossible to achieve. It didn’t even help one bit that I hadn’t used my old Minolta for a looong time (last time was in Syria I think), so all the knobs and buttons had become somewhat unfamiliar to me.

After some many failed attempts of having any good shots taken, I finally gave up for the evening and had some beer instead, and watched football (soccer) on the big screen in Rautatientori, Helsinki.
